make (someone or something) late or slow.
Obtaining goals requires a healthy mind.
In 2015, I decided to take a break from college. At the time, I was overwhelmed with classes, being involved with numerous student organizations, and trying to implement necessary matters on campus. Deciding to leave school was not my initial choice, yet it was necessary for me to stay healthy.
I was at the halfway point into my junior year when I experienced one of the most intense mental breakdowns. Literally! I lashed out at peers, friends, and people who were considered close to me. Personally, I felt as if my mind was fighting against itself. I didn’t feel in control and became fearful of anyone or anything around me.
Eventually, I found myself in Tulsa with my parents. I don’t remember our entire conversation, but I do recall talking with them while being in some sort of hospital. After a while, my parents and I were guided into a room to talk with a doctor.
Next, the physician asked me a series of questions while my parents chimed in periodically. As I was answering the questions, I didn’t realize what exactly was happening. Then, I signed some paperwork and my parents left.
For 4 to 5 days, I stayed in a mental institution. I was surrounded by people who were high/low functioning, suffered schizophrenia, borderline personality disorder, bipolar, and etc. Though I was never diagnosed with any of those disorders, I experienced trauma from being in the care of the facility.
Choosing to delay gives an opportunity to refocus and reset.
“When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,
When funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don’t you quit. …”
John Greenleaf Whittier
I can proudly pronounce I am in a better place mentally and stable financially. Likewise, I’ve been paying towards a balance from the University and I believe it will be paid off soon!
In fact, starting this summer, I plan to finish up my final classes to obtain my degree! Though I experienced a few bumps and bruises to get here, I’m confident to say my delay was a setback for a strong come back!
In our lives, we all will have to make the decision to delay at some point.
We must remember to never give up on our dreams.
There is nothing wrong with starting over!
God has made us all unique.
Our dreams can not afford to be forgotten.
Someone somewhere needs for us to fulfill what God has shown us.
Sometimes we must be broken all the way down, so our only option is to look up!

Your story is what Jesus was saying in the Parable of The Lost Sheep. “If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them wanders away, what will he do? Won’t he leave the ninety-nine others on the hills and go out to search for the one that is lost?”
Matthew 18:12 NLT
God will always be there searching for us when we are lost. He is willing to come get us no matter how far away we’ve gone from His presence. It’s a blessing to hear He was able to save you. Continue to share your story with others! 💞
